‘Good old Arsenal’ are back, declares recruitment chief

Sven Mislintat has said that Arsenal’s signing of Matteo Guendouzi is a sign of the club moving back to what it used to do well.

Guendouzi has impressed since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in what head of recruitment Mislintat regards as a key transfer deal which highlighted the Gunners’ philosophy going forward.

“I saw him play in Lorient when the club was still in Ligue 1.I like this club, you always find interesting players there,” Mislintat told German newspaper Die Zeit, as reported by Sky Sports.

“Guendouzi attracted attention with his long hair and his personality. But my interest is also the weakness of a player. Can you stop them?’

“Matteo ran inexpedient over the whole field but for me one thing was clear: It’s just a matter of time to break with that habit.

“For us, the transfer of this 18-year-old boy was an important signal to show the world.

“We are the old Arsenal again, who give young players a real chance.’”

Guendouzi, 19, has made 17 appearances for the Gunners this season since his arrival from Lorient, with 12 of those coming in the Premier League.
